In documents regarding animals escaping a Dutch zoo, Mininews stumbled upon a previously undiscovered animal species. It’s a hyena that manages to cover itself in the wild with a grey striped block. Upon discovery, Mininews dubbed this predator the greyscale redacted hyena.
The disguise was attached to the animal by mankind, following a Freedom Of Information Act request. However, already public information makes it easy to identify the redacted species as a hyena.
The animal teared down a fence during a lockdown, fall 2020. Since no visitors were around, the Amersfoort Dierenpark zoo decided to keep quiet about the incident. This didn’t age well, after some wolves also managed to escape in the zoo, the hyena breakout was exposed by EenVandaag, a daily news show on national television.
The reason the hyena is redacted, is that the request only involved the escape of wolves, not other animals.
